SUMMARY:Faculty Composers Concert
DESCRIPTION:Our UCLA composition faculty have programmed a wide-ranging concert\, featuring Ian Krouse’s Two Sephardic Songs and Two Japanese Songs\, Kay Rhie’s Twelve Minutes for Oboe and String Trio\, Shahab Paranj’s Diar\, Richard Danielpour’s Seven Mysteries\, piano pieces by Peter Golub and Noah Meites\, and more. \nCome waltz to Emily’s and Kaitlin’s performance of Peter Golub’s piece for two pianos\, 2 out of 3 for 2 in 3\, on the UCLA Faculty Composers Concert 2025. \nProgram note from the composer: \nTo translate the title: here are 2 out of 3 pieces (the third is on the way) for 2 pianists; in 3\, meaning they all explore different kinds of threes (metrically). The first is a Barcarolle\, rolling along and luxuriating in the sound of the 2 pianos. Halfway through there appears a familiar theme from a famous Barcarolle that wafts in and out. The second piece is a collection of waltzes\, with much appreciated help from Shostakovich. The third will be a barbaric\, relentless and possibly nauseating 6/8. \nI’m grateful for Kaitlin and Emily for their musicianship and pianism and look forward to the upcoming record. ~ Peter Golub\, UCLA Lecturer of Music and Film Composition

SUMMARY:Bach Beltrami Preludes
DESCRIPTION:“I can think of no better way for me as a composer to fight against the anti-intellectualism climate\, than to pay homage to Bach\, the master\,” Beltrami said in a press release. “His music contains the musical seeds of the human condition. He transcends pain and suffering and oppression by offering freedom of thought. Many people are unaware of Bach because he has been stuffed into a rigidly labeled box which one is supposed to open without proper training. The purpose of this project is to take Bach out of this box and reveal side to him that have remained obscured from public view. To clearly show his relevance and the variety of emotional content that he endured and transcribed\, and which has resonated sympathetically with me. I have interpreted Bach’s map with my own emotional compass.”Timeless Music\, Timely Innovation \nMeet our talented performers: \nAnna Drubich – piano \nAnastasia Malliaras – singer \nEvgeny Tonkha – cello \nLuanne Homzy – violin \nRobert Brophy – viola \nTereza Stanislav – violin \nEnjoy wine\, light refreshments\, and great company as we celebrate our shared love for music.
